OB Teams: The Last Weekend Before Momentum
The Operation Barnabas teams are finishing up this segment of their traveling and will begin ministering at Momentum Youth Conference next week. Please continue to pray for the students and adults and get regular updates by visiting their blogs.
Special Thanks from Dan Beaver for OBI
OBI Wrap-Up Report
CE National has been pleased to train and deploy a group of 18 Operation Barnabas alumni and their two leaders to the Philippines this summer. We praise the Lord for the opportunities and His blessings upon this team that has invested themselves so diligently this summer. We look forward to seeing the majority of the group at Momentum this next week and hearing even more reports. Thanks for your prayers and let's ask God to continue to work in and through these young people - that they might be a light for Jesus wherever they go! Enjoy the following report from Dan and Tori Beaver, OBI's receiving missionaries.
~TK
A team of 20 vibrant young Americans have brought love and the glad news of Christ to so many Filipinos. From loving, feeding and caring for impoverished children, individually leading Filipino children and teens to a personal relationship in Christ; to impacting scores of people through song, dance, and drama, the OBI students have certainly made an impact for eternity in the lives of thousands of people here. We praise God for the everlasting victories that He has made through the lives of these talented and dedicated young people.
After 12 days on Boracay Island, OBI performed and shared at the Marikina Grace Brethren Church. Later that afternoon, they ministered to a combined group at a special service of the Greater Manila Grace Brethren Church and its two satellite churches. During this special service on the 4th of July, 25 people were set free for eternity with decisions for Christ!
The day before, close to half of the 250 Jasms High School students gave the same response showing how
effective OBI students were in the schools during their Philippine ministry tour.
Now that Philippine schools are aware of this type of program OBI can offer their students, there will be open doors when OBI returns again.
The OBI Philippine team wrapped up their 17 day Philippine tour by visiting the "largest" high school in the world, Rizal High School, in Pasig Metro Manila. Twenty-five thousand (25,000) students attend this school and OBI was allowed to share the Gospel in music, pantomime and drama with Filipino students, ages 12 - 16. Following the hour long program by the OBI team, close to 300 Rizal students responded when the invitation to come forward for prayer and to make a decision for Christ!
Thank you for praying for the OBI team. They had a tremendous impact during their 17 day visit to the
Philippines. To God be the glory for the great things He has done!
We are grateful for David and Carly Nicodemus and their wonderful leadership of the OBI team. We are forever blessed by the ministry of this team to help the work of the Great Commission in Manila and Boracay Island.

Congratulations to the Cornerstone Graduates at Urban Hope

Graduates of Cornerstone
Cornerstone is a discipleship program for children who have decided to follow Jesus. The program teaches kids how to have godly character through Bible lessons. It also focuses on helping them develop spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Each child has an individualized plan for their educational level that helps them develop in the much needed areas of literacy and mathematics. Kids memorize verses each week and learn how to live out godly character through the Bible lesson projects and application.
Members of Urban Hope Community Church volunteer their time to tutor the children and to give lessons in art and music. About 20 children were in the program last year.
A graduation ceremony was held for children who are turning 13 to help them transition into the Crossover program (the teen discipleship program) and ROCK (the youth outreach program). Parents were invited to attend.
Urban Hope Training Center and Community Church is a ministry of CE National. To find out more about Urban Hope, go to urbanhope.net.

Why Not Serve in Our Own Community?
A team of youth leaders at Winona Lake (Ind.) Grace Brethren Church, recently put together a one-week ministry trip for the students at their church. The unique part of this trip was that it was focused on the community around the church.
"Sometime it's so easy to go," thought Tim Wright, youth pastor. "Why not serve in our own community?"
So Tim, Nick Deck, junior high coordinator, along with Nathan Zuercher and Kristin Yocum, both National Institute majors and summer interns from Grace College, organized the initiative called "Right Here." "Nathan and Kristin were the ones who put together all the details for the week," says Tim. "This was their leadership responsibility."
The week of ministry had students doing various ministries in the community. One day they did a program in a trailer park less than a mile from the church. Kids in this park attend an elementary school that's right across the street from the church. There are also ladies in the park that attend the ESL program at the Winona Lake Church.
To get students telling their testimonies the students went to a local retirement center. Two students met with one retired individual and, some for the first time, shared their testimony. Then the students were blessed by the seasoned testimonies of the retired individuals. Other opportunities were unplanned. Students helped clean up after a storm hit the area one evening.
In order to put into practice their evangelism training, the group went to a mall about an hour away to allow them to talk about God with people they didn't know. They also spent a day helping a county youth center about 15 minutes away. At the center, students did work projects and helped lead a small portion of the teen summer program.
To prepare, the group read and journaled through Mark Cahill's book "One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven."
Throughout the week, Tim encouraged students to "do the things you normally do, but with an open set of eyes." One day they enjoyed a water park, but were encouraged to pray and share their faith with others.
"We love the opportunity to prioritize our summer ministry trips for 7th-9th graders and having the chance to work with them as they learn to do ministry, in some cases for the first time," says Nick Deck, junior high coordinator. "The fact that it was in our own community helped them develop the heart for local people at the same time."
CE National is encouraged to hear about churches that are creatively reaching out to their communities. If your church has effectively involved your congregation in the community please email cenewsonline@cenational.org so we can share your story with others.
Millennials: Now That We're Young Adults..? - by Bob Hetzler
About ten years ago, a book was written about a generation graduating from high school and the impact this group would have on the cultural landscape of our nation. Millennials Rising:The Next Generation, written by Neil Howe and William Strauss, was a groundbreaking work that introduced us to the first youth generation of the 21st century.
Since that time, other books have been written, research has been conducted, news programs have been aired, and TV shows have all highlighted the positives and negatives of the generation we know as Millennials, Gen Y, Netgen, Generation We and countless other names that have been given but have all been rejected by this age group. Read more on Bob's blog.
Wooster Grace Youth Help South Bend Church
By Mariah Vacha, High School Ministries intern at Wooster (Ohio) Grace Brethren Church.
For most, June 7- 13 was just another summer week gone by. However, in Wooster, Ohio, this week held an entirely different meaning. Pastor Nick Cleveland and a team of 36 students and adult leaders from High School Ministries at Wooster Grace Brethren Church were getting ready to head out to South Bend Indiana where they would meet up with Grace Community Church to help them with their annual soccer camp.
Grace Community Church - South Bend, Pastored by Tim Boucher, is a sister church of Grace Community Church in Goshen, Ind.
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power of love and of self-discipline," 2 Timothy 1:7. If there was to be a theme verse for the week that students from HSM spent in South Bend Indiana, this would be it. Seeing students rise up and grow, to show no signs of timidity but instead love to young children, power in reaching out to an unfamiliar community, and self-control in putting aside their wants and desires to be at the mercy of God and serving Him through serving others.
The week in South Bend had an interesting start. Plumbing problems and moving sleeping quarters, combined with buckets and buckets of cold rain on our first night of soccer camp could have easily discouraged and deterred the journey that lay ahead of our students, but they rose to the occasion helping and serving in ways that showed maturity beyond their years. I have to say it was completely inspiring to watch these students ranging from eighth graders to seniors and see the willingness of their hearts in each and every task and form of ministry that God presented us with.
In team time throughout the week, a song was sung with a chorus of "fill us up and send us out..." and as students were sent out it was evident that God was doing awesome things!
Serving at a local school and at Hope Ministries homeless shelter, staying at Grace Community church to help them, or going out into the community to thank businesses for what they do and pray for them, the young high school students of Wooster Grace were striving to live with high expectations.
And it didn't stop there! As evening rolled in local children and families flooded to the soccer fields and watched the students of Wooster Grace show love, and compassion as they took on the role of coaches at the soccer camp, demonstrating and explaining to them not only how they cared for them, but that Jesus loves and cares for them too.
Goals were scored, whistles were blown, balls were passed, and victories were had - not only on the soccer field but eternally as well. 2 Timothy 1:7 was evident in the hearts of our students as they served and grew in South Bend, but it's all the more exciting as we see them continue in that journey even now this Summer of '10.

Can You Help Haiti?
"The August trips are going to be super!" says Dan O'Deens, executive director of CPR-3, after returning from Haiti. "The
needs in Haiti are incredible. The opportunity is great. The time is
NOW!"
CE National is partnering with Dan O'Deen's organization, CPR-3 to lead two separate trips in the heart of the
earthquake district in Port au Prince. Opportunities exist for those who want to love on orphans and play and serve children, as well as help with construction
and medical clinic outlets. The first of the two trips is
full and the other one is filling up. Please go to cpr-3.com to sign up
for this trip soon.
CPR-3 and CE National have done everything we can to keep the cost of these trips very affordable without sacrificing the quality and experience of the
trip. Those who go will not return the same!
CPR-3, CE National, and T.H.E. Mission Haiti are working together to assemble these teams that will serve the people of Haiti. Our desire is not only to affect the people of Haiti but also to develop in team members a greater heart and love for the overlooked.
We are offering two different, one-week trips:
July 30-August 5 (Full)
August 6-12
