Celebrate Good Times, Come On!
The Southern California CE Celebration was held Sunday evening, January 29th, at Community Grace Brethren Church in Whittier. The new facility was a wonderful location for the event attended by over 80 individuals.
Highlights of the evening included the honoring of Wayne and Dorothy Beaver for their investment in the lives of others by teaching biblical truth in any culture. Their son, Joe, received the award on their behalf and helped share the investment his parents have made for the cause of Christ. (pictured)
Numerous presenters shared on the role discipleship has played in their spiritual development. Pastor Jeff Patton (Norwalk) shared a brief devotional on the concept. Past and current Operation Barnabas students and leaders shared how the investment of an older, more mature believer has impacted their life. Ed Lewis and TK told stories of lives being changed by God through the connection of younger and more mature believers through OB, OBI, Urban Hope Training Center, and the National Institute. More information was also shared about the upcoming November tour/ministry trip to Israel that CE National is sponsoring. Numerous "give-aways" related to evangelism and mentoring were also provided.
The evening was capped off with a great sandwich bar and dessert hosted by Community Grace Brethren Church. The cupcakes with TK and Ed's pictures on them (edible!) were a real hit!
TK says, "It is always a wonderful evening when we celebrate the great things God has done in our midst. There is something special about these times when we get to see old friends, retell old tales, and share what God is currently doing in our lives." Then he added with a laugh, "I think everyone should know that the cupcakes with my picture on them were gone before Ed's..."
If you would be interested in hosting a CE Celebration in your area, please contact Judy at churchrelations@cenational.org. The next Celebration is scheduled for the Washington DC area at the Clinton Grace Brethren Church at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.
Watch the New Momentum 2012 Promo Video
Momentum Youth Conference teaches, equips, and inspires youth to return to their churches and communities as a light for Christ. Momentum excites youth to lead a lifestyle of intentionally walking with Christ and showing their peers at home what that means.
Momentum 2012 will be held at Eastern Kentucky University, July 17 - 22, 2012. To find out more about Momentum 2012, visit buildmomentum.org.
You Can Honor Someone in Your Church
Each year, CE National provides an opportunity to encourage and honor faithful servants in ministry. The CE National Faithfulness Award is an opportunity to nominate those within your church family deserving of honor. Are there names that come immediately to mind? Maybe the faithful staff member, the long-serving Sunday School teacher, those who have undertaken an event
that was helpful in reaching, teaching, and releasing people for God's glory? The deadline for
submitting a nomination for a CE National Faithfulness Award is Friday, March 2nd.
You play a vital role in the giving of these awards! Will you help us honor individuals who have served so well? You can find the Faithfulness form on our website at cenational.org/churchawards. Please take time to consider one or more nominations from your church family.
I Couldn't Get Urban Hope Off My Mind - Jennifer
Jennifer Mullins and others talk about their experiences as Urban Hope interns.
Internships at Urban Hope are about making an impact in a hopeless child or teen's life, a young adult struggling with abuses, or in a stressed mom or dad. Through an internship, you will learn the culture of the inner-city and how to share Christ with those who live there. You may write a message of hope on the heart of those you talk to. If you become an intern, you may see sites you never imagined and you may have a change of heart yourself.
Inner city internships are now available at the Urban Hope Training Center in Philadelphia.
As an Urban Hope intern you will...
- have the help of a mentor.
- have reading and training responsibilities.
- be responsible for a block of the city which includes visiting, doing servant evangelism, and being a shepherd to the people.
- be involved in Kingdom Kids, park programs, Day Camps, Friday Night ROCK (teens outreach), the Urban Hope Community Church, and helping with visiting teams.
Summer internships are for those who have completed one year of college or have been out of high school for one year.
The tentative dates for the 2012 Summer Internship Program are June 4 through August 13. Summer interns need to raise $2,000 in personal support. Included in this cost is a $100 weekly salary that interns receive during their time at Urban Hope, a $500 scholarship toward a college of your choice or toward student loans at the end of the summer, and $500 to cover housing and program expenses while at Urban Hope.
If you have completed college or other training and are able to secure a job in the area, you may apply for a year-long internship.
For housing and program details, please contact Jason Holt at at jason@urbanhope.net. Application and reference forms are available at urbanhope.net.
Urban Hope Youth Center Floor Gets a New Look
The hardwood floor of Urban Hope's youth center now has a beautiful, durable new finish thanks to Tim McCarty, owner of Ambassador Hardwood Floors, Warsaw, Ind.
Steve Koontz, (pictured with Tim) communications and IT developer for CE National, went with Tim to lend a hand with the project. Dave Rice from Grace Church in Lititz, Pa., joined the two on Monday to help.
Tim and Steve arrived at Urban Hope on Sunday (Feb 6), worked a few hours Sunday evening, then put in an 18-hour day on Monday to get the floor ready for
the initial coat of stain. Dave joined them on Monday and was a big help repairing holes in the floor.
Tuesday was an easier day, with Tim and Steve applying two coats of finish. After applying the final coat of finish Wednesday
morning, the pair left for home.

Operation Barnabas Administrative Leaders Announced
"The quality of a ministry training program is directly related to adult leadership. It is a blessing from the Lord that Sarah Knepper and Alex McCue will serve as the administrative leaders of the Operation Barnabas domestic teams this coming summer. I believe that God has great things prepared for these OB students and look forward to how He uses the adult leaders to help mold and shape these young lives to look more like Jesus." - Timothy Kurtaneck, director of Operation Barnabas.
Sarah Knepper grew up in Pennsylvania, went to Grace College in Indiana, lived in Thailand, traveled the country for CE National, and now lives in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout all the transitions in her life, her involvement in Operation Barnabas is one of the things that has remained constant.
This is Sarah's eighth summer as a Barnabas leader, and she is as excited as ever to see what God is going to do in and through the teams this year. Sarah is also the assistant director of Operation Barnabas.
When she's not on Barnabas, Sarah is attending graduate school and is part of the launch team for Movement Church, a church plant in Hilliard, Ohio.
Alex McCue grew up in Delaware, Ohio. He was a student on Operation Barnabas in 2008 (go Mid-America!) Currently Alex is living back in Delaware, Ohio, and on track to graduate from THE Ohio State University this coming spring with a degree in Comparative Religion.
Alex also recently graduated from the Vineyard Leadership Institute (a two-year Bible and theology program). Last autumn, Alex went on staff at Delaware Grace Brethren Church as the coordinator of junior high ministries and has been involved with the ministry of Young Life for six years. Alex has coached high school soccer for two years and middle school basketball for a year. This will be Alex's second year leading OB.
Alex loves good coffee, deep conversations, watching young people learn what it means to know, love, & follow Jesus, and seeing people pass from death to life in Christ!

I Have Begun Having Daily Devotions More Regularly - Beth
Mae: OnTrack Devotions have helped me to better understand passages of the Bible that I hadn't spent a lot of time on before, and they provide me with an easy way to make sure I'm doing my devotions daily.
Beth: I have begun having daily devotions more regularly and actually understand what I read.
Rebekah: I never knew where to start reading for my devotions. I would be so overwhelmed by all of the chapters and not know where to read. OTDs have helped me know specifically where to read in my Bible and what passages to focus on each day.
