The Bible is About Relationships – Dr. Gordon MacDonald

Posted in: Uncategorized

2014_9_26_swDr. Gordon MacDonald (pictured with Knute Larson) was featured at the Super Wednesday event held at CE National’s Russell Center which was sponsored by Grace Seminary and CE National on September 24.  MacDonald, author, speaker, business consultant, chancellor of Denver Seminary, and former pastor, addressed 70 pastors and church staff members. The event was live-streamed to two other locations where local pastors joined together in Columbus and outside of Philadelphia.

Dr. MacDonald spent the morning and part of the afternoon talking about the personal aspects of ministry, sharing how to deal with issues in one’s past, present, and future.  He touched on the importance of relationships stating that the Bible is about relationships which translates into church life and the personal life of those in ministry.

During the last part of the day Dr. MacDonald opened the time up for questions, giving his perspective on many aspects of the church and generational gaps we find in churches today.

Pastor Knute Larson was the emcee for the day. He shared “From the Pastor’s View” about personal issues in ministry and the “job” itself.

See pictures on the CE National Facebook Page.

Dr. Kevin Zuber will be featured during the next Super Wednesday on November 5. He will be addressing the topic “What Pastors Need to Know About Postmodernism.” Registration for this upcoming event can be made at superwednesdays.net.

Super Wednesdays are open to pastors, church staff and lay people. They are specifically designed for growing you and your church. For additional information contact Lois at cenational@cenational.org or call 574.267.6622.

Carnival of Hope Coming to Urban Hope This Weekend

Posted in: Uncategorized

2014_9_5_uh_carnivalOn Saturday, September 27th Urban Hope will be having the Carnival of Hope. Four blocks will be closed in the neighborhood to handle the expected crowd of people. The neighborhood will be treated to food, carnival games, face painting, bounce houses, a stage with performers, a pantomime performed by the Urban Hope Community Church teens, basketball, hair cuts, health screenings, information about resources in Philly, give-a ways, and more-all for free. A multicultural dance team from Liberty University will perform as well.

The purpose of the carnival is two-fold:

1) To plant seeds and let everyone in our neighborhood clearly hear and feel the love of Christ. We will have a group of people whose specific job is to share Christ and to pray with people. “One of the most encouraging things is seeing someone come to church the next day, or 6 months later, because someone had said ‘Hi to them and asked them how they could pray for them when they were at the carnival,” says Amber Richardson from the Urban Hope staff.

2) Members of the Urban Hope Community Church will share their testimony, clearly giving the gospel, and give people an opportunity to respond to the gospel. A volunteer will then meet with every person who made a decision.

In order to keep everyone at the carnival until the gospel is clearly presented, a car will be raffled off at the end of the day.

Trained volunteers will mix among the crowd to pray, share the gospel, and be ready to to follow-up when people respond. Every one who makes a decision for Christ or even registers will be given a call or visit the following week.

“It was incredible last carnival to see so many new believers from our church sharing their faith and praying with other people from our neighborhood,” says Amber. “Many people will not come into a church, but they will come to a carnival, so we just bring the church to the streets and they hear the gospel there.”

Last year Urban Hope had 61 people make decisions and 1500 people come. Please pray as Urban Hope is expecting God to do amazing things year as well.

Contact Pastor Doug Courter, Bible Quiz coordinator, at pastordoug@myactv.net with questions. CE National has study books that include the passages of scripture. Contact Peggy at resources@cenational.org or call 574.267.6622. The cost is $3 per book, and includes the “Finish this…” verses. Note: If you have a Bible Quizzing program in your church, you may want to look at the guidelines since there have been changes. (Changes are highlighted in the text.)

Three Make Decisions for Christ During Ocala Outreach Event

Posted in: Uncategorized

2014_9_11_ocala4Grace Church of Sebring, Florida, sent 59 volunteers to the Grace Church of Ocala, Florida, on Labor Day weekend to help the Ocala church reach their community. The Sebring church, led by Pastor Randy Smith, adopted the Ocala church in 2010 in order to re-launch the church this past Sunday, September 7th.

The entire weekend was a missions trip from the Grace Brethren Church in Sebring. On Saturday the group gave out cold water bottles in the community and invited people to come to the church campus Sunday afternoon for the festival. Friday and Saturday was a work day to fix the church roof, move and install a fence, and complete many other projects. The work day was designed to bring the community of believers together to propel Team Ocala in reaching their communities with the love of Jesus Christ.

For the Sunday afternoon festival, the group from Sebring brought a donated custom-built grill to cook hamburgers, hot dogs, and braughts. A bounce house and yard games entertained the children. A $50 gift certificate to a local, family-owned restaurant was raffled away to guests who registered during the festival.

“The ideas that worked came directly from Ed Short,” said Todd McQueen, lead pastor of the Ocala church. Pastor Todd (pictured with his wife, Debbie) is being mentored by Ed Short, ministry consultant with CE National. “Todd is like a sponge ready to absorb ministry principles,” says Ed.

Three siblings and their mom attended the morning worship service as a direct result of receiving water and an invitation on Saturday. They stayed for the festival and each of the siblings made a profession of faith and has returned to church with their mom. The church has planned a follow-up activity October 4 for everyone who registered during the Labor Day Weekend festival.

God Works When His People Pray

Posted in: Uncategorized

2014_9_11_prayerBy Timothy Kurtaneck

The most humbling (and awesome!) conversations I have had in the last couple of years is when specific individuals tell me they pray for me, my family, and my ministry every single day. It truly makes me wonder what my life would be like without these awesome people who are asking the God of the universe to work on my behalf for His glory. It is truly humbling.

Each year, this Church Effectiveness ministry asks for specific prayer for some of the large and important ministry events that we provide for churches and individuals. We have been blessed by many who have prayed specifically for the spiritual impact of things like the Momentum Youth Conference, Operation Barnabas teams, various events and needs at the Urban Hope Training Center in Philadelphia, and the list could go on and on…

We are blessed because we have a number of people who pray regularly for CE National, its staff, its leaders, and its impact. Would you be interested in joining one of these important groups? If you would be willing to pray specifically for CE National each week, join up to be aPrayer Partner. If you would be willing to pray every day for CE National let us know that you are willing to be a Prayer Warrior. Each week, prayer requests will be sent to both our partners and our warriors so you know how to pray specifically.

To sign up to be a part of this prayer initiative please email Judy Fisher at judy@cenational.org.

Thanks so very much and remember God works when His people PRAY!!
